SOME PROJECTS OF MY OWN:
THE RONNIE BOTTOMLEY ALL-STAR JAZZ ORCHESTRA
(This band is the love of my life. It's made up of some of the finest professional musicians in the North of England who are usually so busy that there is never an opportunity to rehearse. I write different arrangements for each concert and they simply come along and sight-read them on the gig. There are many examples of this on YouTube under my name, the most recent being at the Wakefield Festival called 'Jazz By Moonlight' and the occasion of my 90th birthday gig at the Leeds College of Music. Just type in Ronnie Bottomley 'Jazz By Moonlight' or
Ronnie Bottomley 90 and up they'll come.
THE RONNIE BOTTOMLEY JAZZ TRIO
This is another big love that keeps me busy writing arrangements for it.
Again, both the other members (Jason Scott , Piano and Adrian Knowles, Bass) are busy professionals so we seldom rehearse and get by with me just sending Jason the piano parts to look at via the internet.
RONNIE BOTTOMLEY'S QUINTESSENTIAL FIVE
The play on words is intentional. It consists of Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone, Piano, Bass and Drums and started life as a college ensemble playing modern jazz. Occasionally the trumpet is replaced by soprano saxophone depending on availability.
Recently it hasn't had much of an airing with my interests being taken up by the other two bands but it's been around for 20 years now and, whenever we do have a gig, it reminds me that it was quite something.
